On Wednesday 7th August, ALIAWest joined forces with ALIA Students & New Grads and ALIA ARL WA to present a conference report back with a twist! Our four fabulous guest speakers took us inside and out of four key 2019 conferences – ALIA Information Online, IATUL, and NLS9.

Rosita Chan kicked off the evening with a recap of her ALIA Information Online experience, which included heaps of useful tips for conference attendees – everything from packing comfortable shoes to researching which concurrent sessions you want to attend before arriving at the conference.

Alissa Sputore then spoke about her experience on the International Association of University Libraries (IATUL) committee. Alissa recently presented a paper at the IATUL 2019 conference on customer service culture, and was also one of two Executive Officers for the IATUL 2019 Conference Program Committee.

Next up was Sarah-Jane Lang, who volunteered at the recent NLS9 Symposium in Adelaide. Sarah-Jane’s inspiring presentation reminded everyone of the value of volunteering!

The 2019 Sharr Award recipient Kristin Stephenson then provided an overview of what it’s like to present at a conference. In July, Kristin attended the ninth New Librarians’ Symposium (NLS9) in Adelaide where she co-presented a workshop with several other current and former WA New Grad Coordinators.
