F A Sharr Award

Honoring Library Professionals in Western Australia

The F A Sharr Award, formerly the F A Sharr Medal, is administered by the ALIAWest Group with support from the WA Library Technicians Group. Named after Francis Aubie (Ali) Sharr, it celebrates his contributions to Western Australia’s libraries.

Recognizing Promising Talents

This prestigious award acknowledges promising professionals within their first three years after graduation. Candidates must demonstrate potential for significant contributions to the library field in WA. Eligibility requires residency in Western Australia and ALIA Associate Membership.

Selection Criteria and Process

Candidates are evaluated based on their involvement in professional activities, understanding of ALIA values, and insights into current industry issues. Nominations can be self-submitted or made by colleagues. A selection panel conducts interviews and selects the recipient.

Ambassadors for Excellence

The chosen recipient becomes an ambassador for the award, actively engaging with ALIA and promoting future applications. They’re expected to provide insights into the award bursary’s utilization, enriching the community.

Celebrating Excellence

The award is presented during Library and Information Week, honoring past recipients who’ve made significant contributions to the field.
