Nicola Carson

Nicola Carson

Convenor

Nicola is the Systems and Circulation Technician in the Client Engagement Team at Curtin University, providing frontline services to all library clients. She is currently involved in Digital Identity projects along with implementing new enhancements for the Library Management System alongside the student user experience. Nicola has been the ALIAWest Convenor since the end of 2021.

Deputy Convenor

Lori is the Deputy Convener for ALIAWest and qualified Library Technician with a Diploma of Library and Information Services from North Metro TAFE. Lori has been a member of ALIAWest since 2019 and enjoys the friendships found within ALIAWest and exploring new ideas. Lori currently works full-time in an admin position for an aged care facility in Forrestfield. Lori likes reading, spending time with friends, doing puzzles, watching Agatha Christie style movies, travelling and riding a motorbike.

Camille is the corporate memory of ALIAWest, having joined the committee before it was known as ALIAWest, and has a day job at an oil and gas company doing library/records management stuff. She has qualifications in librarianship, archives and records management, and data management.

Kerry Smith

Kerry Smith B.AppSc (ILS), MA, PhD is the current convenor of the ALIA WA Retirees group. She has a history of involvement with ALIA and IFLA and has received an ALIA Fellowship and the ALIA HCL Anderson Award. She retired as Head of the Department of Information Studies at Curtin University in 2013. She began her studies in librarianship at WAIT in 1973 and before joining Curtin’s library studies department in 1991, worked as a special and one-person librarian.

Monique is a Librarian for the Research Services Team at Curtin University Library. She has worked for community arts and training organisations in the past. Monique loves gardening and spending time with her chickens in her rural block east of Perth.

Elena Smirnova

Elena Smirnova

Committee Member

Lena completed the Diploma in Library and Information Services course at NM TAFE in 2021. In April 2021 she enjoyed her work experience at the City of Perth Library. She has been volunteering for Birtwistle Local Studies Library in Armadale since 2018 and in 2020 became a volunteer for the State Library of WA to help with events and surveys. Due to volunteering at the State Library she became a casual library officer in 2021. Her hobbies are knitting and yoga.

Amy San Martin

Amy is the Local History and Digitisation Officer at the City of South Perth Public Libraries, assisting the Local History Librarian to conserve and promote local history and heritage in the community. She is a qualified Library Technician and is completing her Bachelor of Information Studies through Charles Sturt University. When not pursuing her interests in all things Libraries, she enjoys playing soccer and tending her veggie garden.

Bri has a Master’s degree in Information Services, specialising in Children’s Librarianship. She currently works at Kennedy Baptist College, and is passionate about information literacy and promoting the importance of library services in communities. Before moving across into school libraries, she developed early literacy programs in Public Libraries. However, the experience has been wasted on her own daughters, who just want her to sing “Let it go” all day while they dance.

Josué Galindo

Webmaster

Josué volunteers on the ALIAWest committee as the webmaster to support the group’s IT needs. Josué has seven years of experience working in libraries as a qualified Library Technician specialising in library systems and digital services. Josué has worked at Avondale University, the State Library of New South Wales and Esperance Public Library.
